Sodium carbonate is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula Na2CO3. It is classified as salt, not alkali. It is also known as soda or soda ash in international trade. Sodium carbonate is a white powder, tasteless and odorless, easily soluble in water. The aqueous solution is strongly alkaline. In humid air, it will absorb moisture and agglomerate, and part of it will turn into sodium bicarbonate. The methods for making sodium carbonate include combined alkali production method, ammonia-alkali method, Lubulan method, etc. It can also be processed and refined from trona. It is an important inorganic chemical raw material, mainly used in the production of flat glass, glass products and ceramic glazes. It is also widely used in daily washing, acid neutralization and food processing.
