Sodium polyacrylate can be used as thickener, emulsifier, film former, dispersant. It is used to prepare facial masks, emulsions, etc. It can also be used as a descaling agent for water treatment, coatings, organic glass, papermaking industry, boiler water treatment, etc. The application field of sodium polyacrylate covers many industries such as the circulating water system of the petroleum industry. Due to the expansion of its application field, the production technology has developed rapidly.
Thickener
1. In food, sodium polyacrylate can enhance the protein cohesion in raw flour, make starch particles combine with each other, disperse and penetrate into the protein network structure, form a dense and stable dough colloid, prevent soluble starch from seeping out, and make the dough surface smooth and shiny; sodium polyacrylate has strong water retention, which can keep water evenly in the dough to prevent drying; sodium polyacrylate interacts with protein, can change the protein structure, enhance the viscoelasticity of food, and improve the texture. For example, sodium polyacrylate is used in bread, cakes, noodles, and macaroni to improve the utilization rate of raw materials and improve the taste and flavor. The dosage is 0.05% (mass); it is used in aquatic products, canned food, dried seaweed, etc. to strengthen the organization, maintain freshness, and enhance the taste; it is used in seasoning sauces, tomato salads, mayonnaise, jam, cream, soy sauce, etc. as a thickener and stabilizer; it is used in fruit juices, alcoholic beverages, etc. as a dispersant; it is used in ice cream, etc. to improve the taste and stability; because it dissolves slowly in water, it can be pre-mixed with sugar, powdered starch syrup, emulsifiers, etc. to increase the dissolution rate. Generally speaking, its maximum dosage is 0.2% (mass). It is also used as a clarifier (polymer coagulant) for sugar solution, salt water, beverages, etc.
Other uses
1. Used as corrosion inhibitor, water stabilizer, coating thickener and water retainer, flocculant, drilling mud treatment agent, etc.
2. Used for circulating cold water treatment of copper equipment, with good scale inhibition effect. When used at a dosage of 100 mg/L, it can form chelates with scale-forming ions in medium hardness water and flow with water, and can prevent the formation of iron oxide scale.
3. Used as a filtration loss reducer in the low solid phase drilling industry.
4. Good dispersant. Can be used in combination with other water treatment agents for oil field water injection, cooling water, and boiler water treatment.
