2,6-di-tert-butyl-p-cresol (BHT) is an organic compound with a molecular formula of C15H24O. It is a white crystalline powder that turns yellow and gradually darkens when exposed to light. It is also an antioxidant and is widely used in food and food-related products.
1. 2,6-di-tert-butyl-p-cresol has a history of application of nearly 70 years and is the largest-producing phenolic antioxidant (called antioxidant in the rubber industry). 2,6-di-tert-butyl-p-cresol was approved by the FDA before 1958 and can be used as a food additive to delay food rancidity.
2. Used in organic synthesis, as an antioxidant for rubber and plastics, gasoline, transformer oil, turbine oil, animal and vegetable oils, food, etc.
